Rahi Hasan
Rahi Hasan (they/them) emerges as a trailblazing force, transcending barriers as a formerly undocumented queer Muslim Bangladeshi dancer, filmmaker, and impact strategist. Their journey is a testament to challenging power on all fronts, carving out spaces for healing and radical imagination. At the forefront of their creative endeavors is the tour of their short film, "35: A Diary of Self-Discovery," and the development of the impactful feature film, "Dhupshikha." The latter delves into their mother's profound commitment to carving a path toward liberation through poetry—a transformative journey for herself and a beacon for others.
As a Sundance Institute Fellow, Center for Asian American Media fund grantee, and Firelight Media Impact Producer fellow, Rahi's diverse skill set is underscored by a Certificate in Documentary Arts from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University (CDS).
Recipient of the 2021 Doc NYC New Leaders award, Rahi co-founded the Undocumented Filmmakers Collective. As a core leader of Indie Media Arts South, one of the designers of the Documentary Impact Lab co-sponsored by the Asian American Documentary Network, and one of the lead editors for the Non-fiction core app 2.0, Rahi's influence extends across various initiatives.
At Dhaka Doc Lab, Rahi has played a pivotal role, leveraging their US networks to secure support for Bangladeshi filmmakers. Their efforts include providing scholarships for Bangladeshi documentary filmmakers to take free classes at CDS. Rahi also secured Bangladesh's first-ever US grant for an impact lab, where they led the design—a first-of-its-kind initiative in South Asia.
Rahi Hasan remains a driving force, amplifying voices, and fostering impactful change across diverse platforms.
