Ultra-prolific Grammy award winning Composer, Filmmaker, Photographer Guitarist, and Producer Omar Rodriguez-Lopez was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.

Known worldwide for his musical work with The Mars Volta, At The Drive-In, Bosnian Rainbows and as a solo artist, Omar's work is no stranger to SXSW.

Since 2001 he has produced many films, of which The Sentimental Engine Slayer was the first to be released. Rodríguez-López wrote, directed, produced and starred in the film, which was premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam . Furthermore, Rodríguez-López and Hans Zimmer worked together to compose the score for the 2009 Guillermo Arriaga film The Burning Plain. Another film directed by Omar, Los Chidos, was premiered in March 2012 at SXSW and received a nomination for Best Narrative Feature.
2018 saw the release of the critically acclaimed film Amalia, Written and Directed by Rodríguez-López which premiered in Paris.

The North American premiere of “Omar and Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird” takes place at SXSW 2024. Directed by Nicholas Jack Davies.
