Iliana Sosa, an Austin-based filmmaker hailing from El Paso, Texas, was raised by Mexican immigrant parents. Her work has screened at numerous festivals including SXSW, Full Frame, Camden, Morelia, and the Museum of the Moving Image in NYC. Sosa has been the recipient of numerous fellowships and residencies from institutions including Firelight Media, Sundance Institute, Berlinale Talents, True False/Catapult Rough Cut Retreat, Logan Nonfiction Program, and Jacob Burns Film Center.

Sundance, the Ford Foundation, Warner Media OneFifty, the SFFILM Rainin Grant, the Austin Film Society, and Field of Vision have generously supported her work. Her debut feature, "What We Leave Behind," distributed by Ava DuVernay's ARRAY Releasing, garnered two jury awards at SXSW 2022 and earned the distinction of a New York Times "Critic's Pick," currently available on Netflix.

Recognized as one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” in 2020 and one of DOC NYC’s “40 Under 40” in 2021, Sosa continues to make significant contributions to the industry. Her latest directorial venture, "La Frontera," part of the HBO Original Documentary Trilogy "God Save Texas," premiered at Sundance 2024 and is now streaming on HBO Max. Additionally, Sosa is a proud member of the DGA.
