Previously Valerie served as the VP, People at Tesla, reporting directly to the CEO, where she became known as “Tesla’s Top Diversity Advocate”. She led a team of 700 overseeing HR, Recruiting, DEI, L&D and more. She played a transformative role in doubling Tesla's global workforce from 50,000 to 100,000 employees: Expanded the DEI team to simultaneously promote inclusivity AND excellence, placed L&D under DEI to help ensure equal access to internal opportunities, created the Community Relations and Supplier Diversity teams, published the company's first-ever DEI Report, replaced the "Anti-Handbook, Handbook" with a comprehensive Employee Guide and led the creation and rollout of "Respectful Recharge" training, required for all employees, and focused on the imperatives of treating each other with dignity and respect.
Valerie is licensed to practice law in New York, Washington, D.C. and Texas and has held executive legal roles at Wyndham, FocusBrands, Tesla and Handshake.
