Senior Editor, Vulture and Host of Vulture’s “Good One” Podcast
Vox Media

Jesse David Fox is a writer/journalist/podcaster living in Brooklyn, New York. He has worked at Vulture since 2012, first as an associate editor and currently as Senior Editor, focusing on comedy. There, he has interviewed comedians including Jerry Seinfeld, Aziz Ansari, Sarah Silverman, Stephen Colbert, and Kevin Hart, both at live events and for Vulture. Fox also serves as the executive producer and curator of Vulture Festival, a pop culture extravaganza, at which he’s hosted many high profile panels including the reunions of Community, Party Down, and Happy Endings.

His notable writing about comedy includes a Vulture cover story on the 100 jokes that shaped modern comedy (and its sequel - “100 More Jokes”), his definitive piece on the “second comedy boom” (a term he coined), an unprecedented look inside the inner workings of Late Night with Seth Meyers, a thorough analysis about why (despite conventional wisdom) Donald Trump is terrible for comedy, and a ranking of every Adam Sandler movie that is actually a 20,000-word meditation on movies, comedy, criticism, taste, masculinity, and Judaism.

Fox is also the host and creator of Good One: A Podcast About Jokes, which launched in 2017 and focuses on jokes and the comedians who tell them. It has since garnered millions of downloads with guests like Kevin Hart, Jimmy Fallon, Tig Notaro, James Corden, Kristen Schaal, John Mulaney, Phoebe Robinson, and Andy Samberg. Embraced by the comedy community, the show gives the public a unique glimpse behind-the-scenes of how comedy is made.

Fox’s work has also appeared in New York Magazine, the New York Times, Slate, The New Republic, The Week, and The Awl. Outside of journalism, Fox has had two short plays produced and has had jokes appear on Fox’s Bob’s Burgers and the Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin. He’s a graduate of the University of Maryland and is 6 feet and 3 inches tall, which surprises people. He doesn’t know why.
