Structures of Feeling: Imagining Disability as Design Lens

Our culture requires a paradigm shift from providing spaces that people with psychological and sensory disabilities may use, to designing with these lenses at the forefront. This session will illuminate such methods through Kelsey Zlevor’s Mental Landscapes, centering depression in park design, alongside Alexa Vaughn’s practice-based research, DeafScape. Both women center lived disability experience as expertise in the fields of planning and landscape architecture. Zlevor and Vaughn will foster imagination around inclusive public space design futures through the lens of disability.
