Ethics in an AI World: Better to be Seen or Unseen?
Is it better to be “unseen” – underrepresented – or “seen” – represented but potentially mis-seen – by AI? The increase in facial recognition and computer vision technologies has created a new tension between the need for privacy in a society fearful of surveillance and the need for representative, fair and unbiased data. The tech industry must find a way to value both privacy and representation. This fireside chat will explore this tension and how facial recognition and computer vision technologies might be developed to balance both in an era when the power of data and AI continues to grow.
