Nemegata
Emerging from Austin, Texas, Nemegata defies musical norms, rooted in Latin American traditions. Rejecting Eurocentric labels, they carve a unique space for authentic expression. As Colombian musicians in the USA, they channel the migrant experience. Led by Víctor-Andrés Cruz, "El Guámbito," and joined by César Valencia "I Nova" and Fabián Rincón "Don Fabo" bringing their strong, potent, and powerful rhythm to infuse vitality into the music. Their album 'VOCES,' produced by Juan "El Mono" Alvarez and Beto Martinez, is a transcendent expression of Colombian heritage. Laden with jungle echoes, eerie synthesizers, and psychedelic guitars soaked in tobacco nuances, 'VOCES' pays homage to ancestral voices and the resilience of Colombian youth.
Drawing from Colombian traditions and '60s/'70s psychedelia from Africa, South America, and the Caribbean. Their resignified take on Latinx sounds and commitment to Abyayalismo have earned them acclaim. Nominated at Austin Music Awards from 2022-2024, they showcased at Austin City Limits and Levitation Festival. Nemegata isn't just making music; they're crafting a cultural force—a celebration of resilience and Latinx identity through sound.
