Nancy Marie Spears
Nancy Marie Spears is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. She covers Indigenous children and families with a focus on the Indian Child Welfare Act and the impact of Indian boarding schools. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism with distinction from the University of Oklahoma and received top honors from the Native American Journalists Association, two first-place awards and one second-place prize for her coverage of environmental, health and elder issues in Native American communities. Her stories for The Imprint are co-published with Indigenous news outlets across the country.
