David Modigliani
David Modigliani is an independent documentary filmmaker and Executive Creative Director with 18 years of experience reaching broad audiences through meaningful real stories. He has built a sustained career through inventive fundraising, development and distribution models, which he loves to share and discuss with other filmmakers and industry professionals.
David produced and directed the feature documentary RUNNING WITH BETO, which won the Audience Award at SXSW and premiered on HBO in May of 2019; produced and co-directed with Paloma Martinez the 2020 feature doc READY OR NOT, which Texas Monthly called "tenderhearted and entertaining" and which premiered on Fuse TV and theatrically via the Alamo Drafthouse. His first feature documentary, CRAWFORD, premiered at SXSW and played at 33 festivals around the world before making history as Hulu’s first ever film premiere. David loved co-producing TRUST US, THIS IS ALL MADE UP (SXSW 2009) with filmmaker and actor Alex Karpovsky (GIRLS) which the New York Times called "as entertaining as it is astonishing." His 2015 feature documentary 61 BULLETS won the special jury prize at the New Orleans Film Festival. In 2013, he produced and co-directed WOUNDED: THE BATTLE BACK HOME, a 12-part documentary series on young combat veterans which aired monthly on MNSBC and was acquired by Netflix. He has appeared on CNN and MSNBC, as well as in Fast Company, the Wall St. Journal, Rolling Stone and many other outlets to discuss his work.
Alongside feature documentary projects, David works as an Executive Creative Director, creating brand-building campaigns through stories of social good with partners like the Clinton Global Initiative, Skype, Ford, Wounded Warrior Project, Microsoft and Procter & Gamble, among many others. He Co-Created The Small Business Revolution, a project for Deluxe to tell the stories of 100 small business across America with award-winning filmmakers and National Geographic photographers. Through his work, he's enjoyed partnerships with PR agencies such as Praytell, Devries, Euro RSCG, Cone, Kaplow, Havas, and MSLGROUP.
David holds a BA from Harvard College and an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a James A. Michener fellow in creative writing.
