In 2012, Nneka Ogwumike was selected 1st overall in the WNBA Draft to the Los Angeles Sparks. A proud first generation Nigerian-American and Texas native, Nneka is regarded as the ultimate role-model and is an advocate for equality, opportunity, women’s empowerment, and health and wellness. She is currently serving as President of the WNBA Players’ Association (WNBPA) and successfully led the group in its renegotiation of a groundbreaking WNBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2020. She is an active investor in various early-stage businesses, with a focus on wellness and Black-led ventures and those originating from and serving the African Diaspora, including Alaffia and The Folklore. Nneka has been actively involved with Girls on the Run, Girls, Inc., and various charities supporting opportunities for girls in sport and tech. Nneka is a seven-time WNBA All-Star, five-time All-WNBA selection, five-time All-Defensive WNBA selection, 2016 MVP and WNBA Champion, and was the 2012 WNBA Rookie of the Year.
