Giulia Caruso
Giulia Caruso is the Director of Catalyst and Industry. Prior to joining Sundance she worked as independent producer with her partner Ki Jin Kim, championing new, underrepresented voices and stories. Giulia and Ki Jin were nominated for the 2018 Piaget Producers Award and received an Independent Spirit Award for Andrew Ahn’s debut feature SPA NIGHT, as well as an Emmy for their work on the KCET/ PBS docuseries LostLA. Most recently, Giulia co-wrote and produced Araceli Lemos’ debut feature HOLY EMY (GR-FR-US), which received a special mention at Locarno 2021 and 15 nominations from the Hellenic Film Academy. Her previous work includes Andrew Ahn’s award-winning feature SPA NIGHT and Kogonada’s critically acclaimed Sundance debut COLUMBUS (starring John Cho). As part of the Sundance Creative Distribution Fellowship, Giulia oversaw the distribution of COLUMBUS in North America, grossing over 1M at the box office. Under the Nonetheless banner, Giulia produced commercial content and short films for clients such as Armani, Focus Features, MTV and GoPro. Giulia holds an MFA in Film Directing from CalArts, where she currently teaches.
