Alysson Muotri
Dr. Alysson Muotri, Ph.D., is director of the University of California San Diego Sanford Stem Cell Institute Integrated Space Stem Cell Orbital Research Center, a revolutionary laboratory performing experiments aboard the International Space Station The center, launched in 2022, aims to facilitate breakthrough discoveries aimed at diagnosing, treating, and curing cancer and other age-related degenerative diseases. In particular, it focuses on the study of stem cells from the blood, liver, and nervous system, and the modeling of tumors in space. Muotri is a professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Cellular & Molecular Medicine at UCSD. He focuses his research on solving one of life’s greatest mysteries: What is it that makes us uniquely human?
