Ula Sniegowska
Director of the American Film Festival in Wroclaw, Poland (formerly, from the inception of the festival in 2010 till 2021, its artistic director). The AFF is organized by the New Horizons Association (14th edition runs from November 7 till 12 in 2023). It is the only event in Eastern Europe devoted solely to the promotion and presentation of independent film from the USA. Ula also runs the US in Progress, a program in the framework of the AFF with the aim of fostering transatlantic collaboration and coproduction for feature narrative projects at rough-cut stage.
Prior to 2010, Ula worked at the Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw as film and video curator. She organized year-round art-house theatre operations (KINO.LAB department of the CCA) and put together a number of gallery and film shows of filmmakers/artists, namely Jonas Mekas, Chantal Akerman, Ulrike Ottinger and Walerian Borowczyk. She also guest-curated experimental Polish film and art shows abroad (in Scotland and France).
Member of the European Film Academy.
Acts as board member of CICAE - International Confederation of Art-House Cinemas (2007-10 and 2012-current); and sat at multiple festivals as a jury, including, Sarajevo, Cluj, Denver and Tuscon.
Associate programmer of the New Horizons International Film Festival in Wrocław in 2022 she was responsible for the extensive retrospective of Jonas Mekas, including film presentafilm presentation, an exhibition and a book publishing.
Acts as programming associate for Watch Docs Human Rights in Film International Film Festival in Warsaw.
Expert at the Polish Film Institute (in 2015 and 2017 sessions) recommending feature narrative and animated projects for production in Poland.
