Brooke Kahn
A recovering workaholic from New York City, Brooke gave up everything she owned in 2016 to embark on a journey to see the world. After a year of traveling around Asia and breaking barriers she didn’t know were in her way, she relocated to Sydney to bring her experience working for large companies like Apple and Universal McCann to a little-known Australian start-up. While in this role, she was able to make an immediate impact in helping to shape the 6 campaign managers reporting into her. Constantly evaluating the landscape for new opportunities and partnerships, Brooke was able to connect the dots when partnering with location-based data and technology company, HYP with the audio-giant AdsWizz to create the first ever in-store attribution from digital radio. Involved in every step of the process, from ideation and technology to the go to market strategy, Brooke was able to create a USP for Big Mobile in a very saturated market and helped drive revenue.
Upon returning the US, Brooke knew that to avoid repeat burnout, she could not lose sight of her other passions and keeping her love of travel alive would be essential. Unfortunately, it was March 2020, and the world was put on hold as COVID took over our lives. After settling into her new role as a Campaign Director at Flashtalking, Brooke once again relocated, this time to Mexico, to become a digital nomad. While she loves the lifestyle, there are many challenges she had to navigate on her own, particularly the absence of attending industry events and creating connections with her colleagues and peers.
Throughout her career, Brooke has enjoyed helping brand embrace digital media technology that help to deliver on their business goals and create long-lasting connections with their audience. By taking the time to understand what problem(s) they are trying to solve, she uses her knowledge and understanding of different technology options to make recommendations and will even break it down into a crawl, walk, run approach for brands that are hesitant to jump right in.
It may have been luck that Brooke fell into an operations role 14 years ago, but as a self-proclaimed operations and process junkie, Brooke is passionate about documenting everything! As technology continues to get more complex and nuanced, Brooke believes that success is not possible without clear and concise documentation which facilitates scaling the operation across larger teams but also enables collaboration with the product team to further advance the product.
Brooke is also passionate about pushing the industry, and Mediaocean specifically, to meet modern day ESG goals. Digital technology has always been about pushing boundaries and she is actively working to make sure that doesn’t stop at ad tech but extends beyond into the people we work with and the world we live in.
While there are several women within tech, there are much fewer in leadership roles. Brooke is passionate about women connecting with women and lifting each other up. While she has had the pleasure of working under some women in C-Suite roles, she knows we can only see more if we band together and support one another instead of fighting for that single seat.
Brooke has also taken an active role in Mediaocean’s sustainability group the ‘Green Dream Team’ as well as their DEI allyship in which she was a key player in developing and executing a partnership with the Ad Council. Mediaocean is in a unique position as it works across all the major advertising holding companies as well as several independent agencies and brands direct to be able to have a mass impact with sustainability efforts across the industry at large and Brooke is a part of a small team determined to make that happen!
