James Meadours has been a tireless advocate and powerful voice for the rights of people with IDD to live full lives in the community for decades. He is a survivor of sexual assault who has spoken out to shed light on this important issue and let other survivors know that they are not alone.

James has held various leadership positions within the disability rights field. He was President of People First of Oklahoma, and later served as a VISTA volunteer to strengthen the movement in Oklahoma. He was chair of the national organization Self Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE) from 1999-2002. He is the President of Texas Advocates and a recipient of The Arc’s Catalyst award. James also serves on the President's Committee on Intellectual Disabilities. He is the Advocacy and Outreach Lead for Strategic Education Solutions.
