Junfeng Jiao is an associate professor in the Community and Regional Planning program and director of Urban Information Lab, Texas Smart City Initiative, and NSF NRT Ethical AI program at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the founding Chair of the Smart Cities Bridging Disciplines program at UT and a Co-Founder and Past Chair of UT Good System Grand Challenge, an interdisciplinary research grand challenge that designs ethical AI technologies to benefit society. His research focuses on urban informatics, smart cities and Ethical AI. He has used different technologies (GIS, GPS, Drone, smart phone, social media, wearable devices, etc.) to quantify cities and understand their impacts on people’s behaviors. He coined the term “Transit Desert” and measured it in all major US cities.
