Presented by USGLC
Over the past decades, discussion of climate change has centered on the scientific impacts on our planet and has largely assumed political consensus to take action. This panel would seek to provide a framework to reenergize political determination on this issue by defining climate change and its impacts on the life-sustaining needs of all humanity—food water and energy—as a vital national security issue. Climate’s direct impact on resource scarcity triggers dire humanitarian crises, political instability, and increased levels of violence and conflict across the world. To meet this challenge, USGLC will utilize its diverse membership, to reshape the debate on climate change and address the mutually reinforcing relationship between resource insecurity and conflict and crisis.
