Redesigning Local News With Product Thinking
Specifically when serving local, hyperlocal and underserved communities, as well as communities of color, Product Thinking and Product Strategy have become a secret (or not so secret) weapon in the struggle for journalism sustainability and impact. Local newsrooms are utilizing product to redefine and strengthen local news - one news desert at a time. But what do the right processes, structures and workflows look like for local news? How can diverse communities profit from the new movement towards product centricity in digital media? Which emerging business models, such as membership, can evolve around it? And how can methods originally derived from Silicon Valley and Big Tech help solve the crisis of democracy, trust and journalism in the United States?
