According to evolutionary psychology, different human emotions evolved at different times– fear during pre-mammal ancestry, guilt and pride during the era of social primates. Entwining with our species’ existence and emotional evolution is our co-evolution with technology – from systems of levers and wheels to artificial intelligence. In the future, AI will be integrated into most areas of life including medicine, security and transportation. But how will it impact the human condition and what does it mean for our state of consciousness?
Ironically, AI will offer a level of self-awareness that could make us more human than ever. Presenting a new landscape for humanity, AI will address innate needs for psychological resources, personal safety, love and belonging and esteem, granting us greater capacity for the highest level of psychological development: self-actualization. With the mind freed to realize its full potential at every age, and experience greater awareness of itself and the world, AI will accelerate our ability to understand and share the feelings of others.
