Quantum computing and artificial intelligence are two of the most rapidly advancing, controversial, and debated fields in technology today.
The convergence of these two technologies will play a significant role in shaping the future of our species and the world as we know it. In this keynote session, "QuantumanAI: Why your future depends on the convergence of Quantum Computing & Artificial Intelligence" we’ll delve into the latest developments in both quantum computing and AI, exploring the opportunities, challenges, and dangers they present.
Quantum computing is a revolutionary approach to computing that is based on the principles of quantum mechanics. It has the potential to solve problems that are currently beyond the reach of classical computers in the areas of machine learning, optimization, simulation, and cryptography. In recent years, quantum computing has made significant advances, with companies like Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Amazon investing heavily in the development of quantum computing hardware and software.
Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, is the development of technologies and methodologies that can be trained to perform tasks that would historically require human intelligence, such as speech recognition, image classification, and decision making. AI has already made a significant impact in many industries and recent advancements such as Open.ai’s ChatGPT, Google’s LaMDA and BARD, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and other technologies are increasingly integrating artificial intelligence into our everyday lives. With more advancements in machine learning and deep learning on the horizon, AI is becoming increasingly capable of solving complex problems and making decisions on its own.
The convergence of quantum computing and AI presents both challenges and opportunities for humankind. On the one hand, the combination of these two technologies has the potential to solve some of the world's most pressing problems, from halting climate change to curing fatal diseases to strengthening the global economy. On the other hand, the convergence of quantum computing and AI also presents significant challenges, particularly with regards to the potential for a quantum superintelligence to emerge. A quantum superintelligence is a hypothetical form of AI that is capable of self-improvement and is able to outstrip human intelligence by several orders of magnitude. Relying on such a technology, for example, to control critical infrastructure, or make impactful decisions would have far reaching impacts – impacts that could be extremely positive…or profoundly dangerous.
To mitigate these risks, it is essential that we approach the development of quantum computing and AI collaboratively and with caution. Only by working together can we ensure that the future of our species and the world is one of progress, prosperity, and peace.
