Brennan Suen
As a senior strategist at Media Matters, where he has worked since July 2015, Brennan Suen focuses on external affairs related to online disinformation and platform accountability, including by working with partner organizations and key decision makers on initiatives, research, and communications aimed at quelling misinformation and hate speech.
Brennan also worked as the LGBTQ program director for four years, during which his team has demonstrated a track record of impact, from successfully urging Facebook to remove extremist pages to getting Amazon to remove an anti-trans book from its LGBTQ bestsellers list. His team has conducted data analysis about how the right dominates narratives about trans issues on Facebook, research on how YouTube allows targeted harassment against trans people by its creators, and studies of news coverage of LGBTQ issues – including how Fox News sets the terms of debate on them. He has previously spoken on panels at Netroots, Creating Change, the NLGJA National Convention, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Political Research Associates.
