Dr. Furr-Holden is an epidemiologist and classically-trained public health professional, she focuses on health equity, racial equity, and community participatory research.

A renowned public health expert and innovator in the field of public health research, Dr. Furr-Holden is the creator of the Neighborhood Inventory for Environmental Typology (NIfETy), a unique systematic social observation system developed to measure the links between the social determinants of health, the built and social environment, and population health outcomes. Her work has earned Dr. Furr-Holden a host of prestigious awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2005 and eth Society for Prevention Research Public Service Award in 2021. Dr. Furr-Holden is also sought-out by local and national policymakers, and is an advocate for making data-driven decisions across a broad range of public health topics.
