Professor of Psychiatry of Ageing at University of Edinburgh, Scotland as well as being Director of Brain Health Scotland www.brainhealth.scot and Chair of the Scottish Dementia Research Consortium www.sdrc.scot - before moving back 'home' to Scotland had lived and worked in London at UCL (where completed PhD) and Imperial College London. Also spend 4 years in Melbourne Australia. Throughout academic career have been working on Preventing Dementia through translational epidemiology; linking risk factors for neurodegenerative disease with early mechanisms in young and mid-life adults - decades before symptoms emerge. Have seccured almost €100M of research funding and published over 300 academic papers, chapters and abstracts. Early detection is key to prevention and hence the keen interest in speech and language as an early indicator of neurodegeneration
