Daniel Mayeda is the Associate Director of the UCLA Law's Documentary Film Legal Clinic, as well as an Attorney with the leading entertainment and media law firm Ballard Spahr. Prior to starting up the Clinic with Dale Cohen, Dan was a shareholder for over thirty years with Leopold, Petrich and Smith, an entertainment and media industry litigation boutique where he represented a variety of studios, publishers, record companies, networks, filmmakers, writers, producers and other content creators and distributors, as well as insurance companies that insured their productions. In 2021, Dan was elected Co-Chair of the LA County Citizens Redistricting Commission which is tasked with using 2020 Census data to draw new boundaries for the five supervisorial districts for the LA County Board of Supervisors. Aside from big city mayors, each Supervisor is the most powerful local elected official in the U.S. in terms of population represented, resources controlled, and geographic territory.
