Solving for Global Homelessness Through Innovation
This panel will discuss different innovations that can be applied to the traditional model of building and funding homes. Ten 500 sq ft homes were 3D-printed using ICON’s advanced construction technology in around 24 hours of print time across several days. The homes are complete and we are expecting families to move in this year. The homes have currently withstood a 7.4 magnitude earthquake as well as flooding and heavy rains with no visible damage. The community gained international attention as a first-of-its-kind solution to one of the biggest global problems. Within the same community, homes were built using ecoblock, a material from compressed earth that is two-times stronger than traditional cinder blocks, and there is additional experimentation with cool roofs for climate control.
