In the near future, experimenting with new social contracts will be as easy as testing ad copy. Today, new nations, governments, and societies form once in a generation. The metaverse will be a crucible for new types of political, financial, and social experiments as virtual worlds with functioning economies and massive communities arise seemingly overnight. Their reach will have impact far beyond virtual confines. While the mobile revolution taught us the boundaries between physical and digital are porous, with the growth of the metaverse, they’ll disappear completely.
This session will explore what that means for the way we interact with the physical world around us and how we’ll have to reexamine our relationships with everything from governments, to finance, and even ourselves.
