It’s Time to Stop Denying Privacy as a Civil Right

Mar 11, 2022

2:30pm – 3:30pm CT

The pandemic demonstrated the vulnerability of all citizens. People of color, LGBTQIA, & tribal residents were highly affected by COVID-19, especially in the susceptibility to the virus, deepened systemic inequalities, & the effective persuasion of misinformation campaigns. The openness of personal data contributed to these abuses, resulting in more surveillance, exploitation, and encroachment on their civil rights. This panel explores why consumer privacy must be among the other civil rights afforded to citizens and delves into how data is being used to surveil activists, create voting confusion, promote anti-immigrant sentiments, and deny access to health care, educational, and other opportunities. Panelist will share actions and how individuals can reclaim agency over their information.
