Artists Protecting Black Owned Venues & Spaces Meet Up
What is the future of Black and POC-friendly music event spaces and venues across major cities in post-pandemic America? Party Blackly believes that artists have the power to mobilize massive community support to transform local legislation in protection of Black spaces.
With the rise of gentrification across most major American cities, Black venue owners, that host multicultural creatives and events, have been the target of direct and subversive tactics to push them out of historically Black neighborhoods. From “randomly selected” police raids, inflated lease renewal costs and meddling gentrifiers, the future of Black-owned venues as bastions of Black music and culture remain precarious. The pandemic has only exacerbated a historically flawed system that has threatened Black nightlife.
