Featured Session: Elevating Communities That Created Pop Music

Mar 19, 2022

11:30am – 12:30pm CT

The popular music that is our country’s #1 cultural export and drives a billion-dollar global business – hip hop, dance music, R&B, blues, jazz, gospel – comes from primarily Black communities. This music has been a driving force in cultivating culture, both in America and globally, while creating a safe space for creative youth to cultivate their identities. Unfortunately, 5 million youth do not have access to this creative outlet in their school programs. Join Save The Music, members of its music advisory board (https://www.savethemusic.org/about/music-industry-advisory-board/), and leading artists in the industry in a discussion on the necessity of ensuring that today's youth have direct access in their classrooms to the rich musical and cultural legacies in their communities.
