The panel will examine the confluence of documentary and narrative, looking at ways cinematography uses reality to make fiction. There are a myriad techniques to achieve realism, and this will be a chance to discuss the craft behind the image. Many directors of photographers begin their careers in documentary or indie features, and embracing reality can be a strategic advantage, how does this change and evolve over a career? This discussion will feature a few cinematographers attending this years SXSW including Alyssa Brocato (Pretty Problems), Charlotte Hornsby (Master, Hair Wolf), Larkin Seiple (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Swiss Army Man), and Joshua Z Weinstein (Sell/Buy/Date, Menashe).
