We live in a world where medical innovations and genetic research take place in high income settings. As a result, today’s med tech and genetic studies lead researchers and clinicians to diagnose conditions that are relevant mostly to people with European genes. From a research and clinical standpoint, the lack of genetic diversity in research databases has severe implications in patient care globally, as it fails to address genetic factors of some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. How do we combat this?
