A discussion about democratizing the live entertainment industry by touring via networks of non-traditional spaces (living rooms, back yards, bookstores, warehouses, art spaces, etc). Generating an audience is difficult without the help of industry gatekeepers, and it's nearly impossible to win the gatekeepers without a built-in audience. Artists find themselves attempting viral social posts to gain an audience rather than working on their craft and touring. Whereas traditional touring requires a benchmark of sales to mitigate the prohibitive overhead, touring in intimate off-the-grid spaces can yield a much higher return - both financially and artistically - allowing emerging artists to leave a deep and meaningful impact in touring markets, even if their footprint is small in scope.
