LITA
Self-made and collectivist to the core, LITA, defies simple categorization. Born in Queens but raised in Houston, the Ecuadorian-American selector, producer, and video artist’s music harnesses percussive elements of diasporic club music, dembow, and southern hip-hop. Every one of her performances embraces a rebellious approach to genre and a deep reverence for percussion; Lita collages styles, vocal melodies, and basslines from reggaeton, rap, and beyond, weaving them into a hypnotic celebration of dance floor communion and release.
As a part of her commitment to a music industry free of gatekeeping, Lita recently launched Basement Tapes, a monthly series and partnership with Mixcloud. She founded Basement Tapes as a platform for emerging DJs and producers across scenes to enrich their performances with video art and visual effects. Lita uses an eclectic approach to video art, one that includes visualizers, analog video, synths and other elements to create audiovisual montages that transcend the boundaries of genre, medium, and place.
