Based between London and Berlin, Minimal Schlager operate at the intersection between Italo disco, the darker corners of New Wave and various forgotten sounds picked up in the dive clubs of Berlin. For Francisco and Alicia, the sweet spot is directly between pure pop and haunting, Lynchian synth pop.

Having played shows across London and Berlin, the band are now set to perform at SXSW 2022 in Austin, USA. This international reach is fitting for a project that views itself as a product of a diverse range of nations, Alicia and Francisco having lived and absorbed Argentina, Italy, Spain, France, the UK, Canada and Germany. “It has all shaped us in a way that inevitably translates into our songs” offers Alicia. Following this, Minimal Schlager have extended their contract with Berlin label Duchess Box Records (Gurr, Sofia Portanet), and are presently working on an album scheduled for 2022 release with producer Robbie Moore (Florence & the Machine, LA Salami, Jesper Munk).

In 2021, Minimal Schlager was also granted a domestic residency at HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts by the MusicBoard Berlin.
