Chris Strachwitz
Chris Strachwitz came to US as a refugee from Germany 1947. He started the independent roots music label Arhoolie Records (now in the Smithsonian Folkways Archive) in 1960. For 60 years he has produced 100s of recordings of the regional music he loves: blues, Mexican, Cajun/Zydeco, country, gospel, and more. He produced Chulas Fronteras with Les Blank (digitally restored, SXSW 2019). Today he is president of the Arhoolie Foundation.
