Jay is an experienced computing professional with over 20 years in the field, having worked at three supercomputing centers and for two computing companies. Jay currently works for Dell EMC as an AI & HPC Technology Strategist. In this role, he evaluates technologies & roadmaps, customers & workloads, and markets & projections, to develop AI and HPC strategies and to design new solutions for customers. Prior to joining Dell EMC, Jay founded the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at UT Austin, which he led from 2001-2014, growing it into one of the leading research computing centers in the nation with multiple world-class supercomputing systems. He led major federally-funded projects, fostered the growth of the center's own research program, and created the scientific classes taught by TACC staff for UT Austin students. Jay received his PhD in astronomy from UT Austin. Jay also founded and leads the Austin Forum on Technology & Society and the Austin CityUP consortium.
