Lorrae McKenna is the owner/director of Melbourne based record label and management collective Our Golden Friend. Lorrae originally set up the label in December 2015 to pursue their love of Australian music, put their years of industry experience to good use, and as an outlet for their love of golden Labradors.
Lorrae has been an active part of the Australian music industry for over 15 years, most recently as the Promotions and Marketing Manager at Remote Control Records. Joining Remote Control in 2013 Lorrae reinvigorated the label’s Australian roster by signing and developing acts like Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Orb, Methyl Ethel, The Murlocs, Saskwatch, Banoffee and many more.
As well as undertaking this A&R function, Lorrae planned and implemented PR & Marketing strategies for international artists including Adele, Radiohead, Anohni, Queens of The Stone Age, The National, Kim Gordon, Sigur Ros, Cat Power, Future Islands, Beirut, FKA Twigs, Mac Demarco, The National, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Grimes, Vampire Weekend, Jack White, Thom York, Jungle, The xx, Jamie xx, Kurt Vile, Deerhunter, Parquet Courts, Purity Ring, Thurston Moore, Warpaint, and Yo La Tengo (among many others).
In late 2016, Lorrae resigned from her full-time role with Remote Control Records to put all of her time and energy into the daily running of Our Golden Friend and to focus her career on artist management. Our Golden Friend’s current management roster includes RVG, Good Morning, Elizabeth, Poppongene, Jade Imagine & Chitra.
In mid-2017 Our Golden Friend announced their label partnership with Island Records which saw the label side of the business utilise Island Records Australia for additional label services, to be distributed by Universal Music Australia. The Our Golden Friend label roster current consists of RVG, Elizabeth, Peak Twins, Chitra, Way Dynamic, Moonlover & Poppongene. The management arm of Our Golden friend operates separately from the joint venture label agreement.
