Carrie Brownstein
Carrie Brownstein’s work as a director, writer, actress, author and musician has established her as one of the most dynamic talents working today, earning her numerous awards and recognition.
Brownstein is best known as the co-creator, writer and star of the critically-acclaimed sketch comedy series, PORTLANDIA, which aired for eight seasons. The show garnered multiple awards and nominations for Brownstein.
Brownstein has demonstrated her talents behind the camera, directing episodes of PORTLANDIA, A.P. BIO on NBC, Hulu’s CASUAL and SHRILL, SEARCH PARTY, and HBO’s MRS. FLETCHER. She also directed a short film for the fashion brand Kenzo, starring Mahershala Ali and Natasha Lyonne.
In 2018, Brownstein was featured in the Warner Bros. comedy, TAG, and Gus Van Sant’s drama DON’T WORRY HE WON’T GET FAR ON FOOT for Amazon. Brownstein previously appeared in the critically acclaimed films CAROL and THE OATH. She also had a recurring role on Amazon’s TRANSPARENT, and guest starred on HBO’s CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM and on FX’s ARCHER.
In 2015, Brownstein published her memoir, New York Times Best-Seller and Notable Book HUNGER MAKES ME A MODERN GIRL, which is an intimate and revealing narrative of her escape from a turbulent family life into a world where music was the means toward self-invention, community, and rescue.
Brownstein first rose to prominence as a founding member of the seminal rock band Sleater-Kinney which became well known during the defining feminist punk-rock movement in the 1990s.
