Charmaine Smith is a Shareholder in Greenberg Traurig’s Entertainment and Media Practice. She has been practicing IP law for over 19 years and has been dedicated to working in the digital space with a focus on music rights licensing for over 13 years. Charmaine specializes in advising clients on U.S. copyright law (including statutory licensing under Sections 112, 114 and 115 of the U.S. Copyright Act) and negotiating deals with music content licensors on behalf of digital media companies. She has substantial experience in representing clients through all aspects of the licensing process, including obtaining the requisite sound recording rights from record labels (or via statutory licensing), obtaining the requisite mechanical and/or synchronization rights from publishers (through compulsory and/or voluntary licenses), selecting and reaching agreement with third-party publishing rights administrators, licensing rights from performance rights organizations, and obtaining rights from the relevant foreign societies or rights collectives.
