Abdul El-Sayed, MD, DPhil

Dr. Abdul El-Sayed ran for Governor of Michigan in 2018. He is a physician, epidemiologist, public health expert, progressive activist, and author of the forthcoming book “Healing Politics,” calling for a politics of empathy. Currently, Dr. El-Sayed is the president of Southpaw Michigan, an advocacy group supporting candidates and causes that move Michigan toward a more just, equitable, and sustainable state, and he is the host of “America Dissected,” a podcast by Crooked Media, which goes beyond the headlines to explore what really matters for our health.
