Allie Garcia
Allie García is an artist and funeral director, living in Austin, TX. She attended Texas State University where she studied Studio Art - Ceramics and San Antonio College for Mortuary Science. Her passion for the arts and education was fostered at a young age by her elementary school teaching parents but Allie always knew her life’s path would eventually lead her into death care.
Growing up in South Texas, Allie’s life was influenced by the colors and lessons of her Latino culture. It taught her that death, though frightening, was inevitable and ignoring it wouldn’t make it go away. “Death was just a part of life and we celebrated our family that went before us. It helped ease the stress of loss and taught me at an early age that bonds don’t break just because death got in the way.” Allie’s art always focused on the beauty of life and understanding loss; lessons that she’s carried with her into the funeral industry.
When Allie went back to school for Mortuary Science, it was her aim to learn all about the industry from the ground up and began her career in the funeral home as an administrative assistant. She would leave, years later, as a compassionate and knowledgeable funeral director. It was here that she met her friend and co-founder, Alex. While they bonded over laughs and hardships, they found kindred spirits in one another when they realized, together, that there were better solutions to the out dated funeral practices they were being taught.
At Pale Hearse, Allie works to create free and engaging education and uses her skills as an artist to create meaningful moments, from digital art and logos to cremation jewelry. Allie believes that by encouraging death positive conversations and educating the public, families will be able to make better choices for themselves and their loved ones when it comes to their end of life options because “death is not the opposite of life but a part of it.”
