Catherine Vaughan is the Chief Strategy Officer at Swing Left and the former CEO and Co-Founder of Flippable, an organization she founded in 2016 after serving as a campaign operative for Hillary Clinton's team in Ohio. Prior to her work in politics, Catherine built a career helping nonprofit organizations deliver outsized impact with limited resources. After graduating from Harvard, she led strategy teams at Partners in Health in Rwanda, Teach for America, and the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency. While earning her an MBA at Stanford, Catherine worked with Jeff Raikes, the former CEO of the Gates Foundation, to help other philanthropists find and support high-impact nonprofits. She worked at McKinsey & Company, the global management consulting firm, before joining the Clinton campaign.
Catherine and her teammates at Flippable built a 100,000+ member grassroots community that has raised over $2M to support 150 candidates running for state office. Flippable powered a data-driven plan to flip states blue in 2018, helping elect 82 Democrats in game-changing state legislative districts, flipping 5 state legislatures, ending GOP supermajorities in 3 states, and working on the New York State Senate to end IDC power. Flippable supported 80% of all flips accomplished in their target chambers, with 72% of endorsed candidates reporting Flippable as a top-10 donor. Flippable directed 91% of funds toward races decided by less than 10 points and 60% of funds went to races within five points. Now that Flippable has joined Swing Left, she is applying her experience in political targeting, data, and strategy to help the combined organization allocate resources effectively across hundreds of races in the 2020 elections.
