Karsten Temme
Karsten Temme is CEO and Co-founder of Pivot Bio - a startup on the verge of revolutionizing agriculture by offering farmers the first in-field solution to biological nitrogen fixation. Temme holds a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from University of California- Berkeley and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa.
For years, Karsten has been fascinated with the limitless potential of the unseen microbes that inhabit our world. While earning his Ph.D., his graduate research focused on enhancing the nitrogen-fixing potential of soil-borne microbes. Seeking to produce “more than scientific journal articles” and driven by the desire to create meaningful change in the world, Karsten partnered with his friend and colleague, Alvin Tamsir, to found Pivot Bio in 2011. As an undergrad, Karsten founded his first company, X-Wires, to take improved internet access to farmers.
