Chelsea Hernandez is a native Texan and Mexican-American filmmaker based in Austin, Texas, recently named as one of Texas Monthly’s “10 Filmmakers on the Rise.” She is an 8-time Emmy winning director, producer and editor in the Texas region. Chelsea has directed and produced various documentary films including the 2012 Austin Film Festival Best Short Documentary Winner, SEE THE DIRT. Her short also premiered internationally at the oldest film festival in the world, the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Chelsea co-directed short documentary AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE which will be screening at SXSW 2018 as part of the Texas Shorts Program. The film was commissioned as part of the "Our 100 Days" video series, a partnership between Firelight Media and Field of Vision that aims to tell stories from the perspective of vulnerable communities and explore threats to U.S. democracy in this current, polarized political climate.

Chelsea is a Firelight Media Doc Lab Fellow, NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) Latino Media Market fellow and Tribeca Storylab Fellow.

She is currently in post-production with her first feature documentary, BUILDING THE AMERICAN DREAM which uncovers the exploitation of undocumented immigrants in the lucrative Texas construction industry.
