Deena Kalai

Deena Kalai is an entertainment lawyer licensed in Texas and New York. She represents artists and businesses engaged in entertainment, intellectual property, and technology, including the film, television, and fashion industries.

In addition to her representation of writers and directors, Deena has a particular interest in copyright fair use. She has assisted many documentary filmmakers in assessing the applicability of this important concept to their projects, saving them thousands of dollars in potential licensing fees.

Deena has been production and distribution counsel for dozens of documentary and narrative projects. She speaks frequently at continuing legal education conferences and workshops, and has lectured at business, film, and law classes at the University of Texas and UC-Berkeley, as well as at various film conferences.

Deena graduated from the School of Law at the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to her practice, Deena mentors new start-ups, watches movies, and pursues her real estate interests.
