Karen Kilroy is a life-long technologist with heart, who carries the belief that artificial intelligence doesn't have to be scary and that technology can be designed to be used for good. Karen's background of working as an open source software engineer has prepared her for the world of cognitive intelligence and immutable ledgers.

Kilroy Blockchain, which she founded in 2016, helps innovators disrupt their industries by using blockchain and artificial intelligence to streamline business processes and create a smarter workforce. Kilroy Blockchain won the IBM Watson Build Challenge for North America for their smartphone app Riley, which uses Watson Visual Recognition and is designed to assist people who are blind and visually impaired.

Kilroy Blockchain was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation, and traveled the USA for customer discovery which resulted in a blockchain-based roadway asset management solution. Kilroy Blockchain was chosen as one of AustinInno’s 2018 “50 on Fire” - which recognizes innovative companies in a wide variety of categories.

Karen leads Austin meetups on AI and Blockchain, and is Associate Director of the Austin Blockchain Collective. She is also a professional dragon boat coach, and volunteers to coach the Wildcats at the Texas School of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
