Ride-hail, on-demand delivery services, e-bikes, e-scooters, the pending advent of autonomous vehicles -- you name it – have drastically changed the ways in which we use our curbs. The curb has become a prime piece of real estate for residents, businesses and public services alike and cities and mobility operators will have to find ways to better integrate these new mobility options into their transportation system to decrease congestion and increase efficiency, while also identifying new avenues for revenue as traditional transportation methods change. To do this, cities must first better understand their curb space inventory and occupancy or, differently, curb space supply and demand.
