5G Technology: Unique Challenges & Opportunities
Fifth Generation, or 5G technology promises faster speed and greater reliability, enabling innovation, efficiency, and economic growth. The increase in innovation capable with 5G technologies raises the potential for infrastructure devices to be engineered for remote access, allowing adversaries to collect vast amounts of data, effect mass disruption, or worse. Given the scope, the stakes for safeguarding these vital networks could not be higher. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is leading the national effort to promote a risk-based security framework for all elements of 5G networks. By focusing on three aspects: trusted hardware and software, trusted networks, and trusted operations, we will discuss how security by design is vital to the deployment of 5G.
