Do Journalists Need to be Futurists?

Futurists look at trends of the past and data of the present to create a vision of the future. For journalists, writing about future impacts of new technological, innovation, and societal trends is attention-grabbing, increasingly common, and important. But journalism itself is an industry that has been massively disrupted by technology and the rise of new media. Journalism will continue to change in the decades ahead, which is why it might be time for journalists to not just write about the future, but to plan for the future of journalism as futurists.
